FAQ

When is the best time to schedule my session with you?

The earlier the better! Depending on the type of sessions you are interested in this will vary. For newborns, my recommendation would be at the end of your first trimester. The more time you allow, the greater the chance of having your desired availability, especially for births as I never book births closer than three weeks apart. The more time we have before your sessions, the more time we have to get to know one another, discuss your style and preferences, and create the most custom experience possible.

Do we need to provide the props for our newborn session?

I am a prop junkie; I love to purchase new things, from baskets to bonnets, to create portraits that will accurately represent your style. I absolutely encourage you to have things of your own on hand as well that have sentimental value, were gifts or heirlooms, or that were made as a special gift for your little one. When you decide to book with me, I will have you fill out a newborn questionnaire. The more information you give me the better. Want to text me a picture of the nursery? Please do! I have several vendors who I purchase props from, and, if they don’t have something to match your style and decor, I will custom commission props that will.

What if I go into labor early?

For maternity sessions: I have had this happen before, and I credit the session toward a newborn session or the purchase of product packages or a la carte prints and products if you already purchased a newborn session.

For births: Call me! I am on call starting two weeks before your due date. If you go into labor before then, I will move heaven and earth to be there for you. My clients are one of my top priorities in life, and the last thing I want is for you to be disappointed that your child’s birth was not captured as you had hoped.

Where do you shoot births?

I am able to shoot births at hospitals, birthing centers, home births, you name it. I’ll even meet your parked car on the side of the road if necessary. Keep in mind that hospitals have strict rules about c-sections and will only allow one person in the operating room with you. In the vast majority of cases this will be the new daddy or a family member. Having had both of my children by cesarean, I am fully familiar with the procedure and would be honored to be your plus one if that is your request. In the event a c-section is necessary, I will discuss the hospital’s process with your doctor, nurse, or midwife briefly, and, depending on their policies, I will follow baby to capture their measurements while the surgery is completed and you are recovering.

When and how do we pay you?

Payment for your session fee is due in full by your session date. There is a $150 non-refundable retainer due at booking. Please note that, for product packages and a la carte orders, delivery of images in digital, print or product form will be withheld until payment is made in full. I accept cash, check, credit card and Megan Carey Photography gift cards. Credit card payments may be made via Paypal.

Do you travel?

Absolutely! I love to travel and don’t get to do it nearly as often as I like. I begin to charge travel fees if you are more than 2 hours away from Brandon, FL. Contact me for more information.

What exactly is a viewing session?

A viewing session is included with every portrait session, and these are done either in your home or at the location of your choice. After having completed your portrait session, I rush home to start picking out the best of the best images and making them even better. Once your images are edited, we’ll get together to view them, in most cases within two weeks. This is the time to order and use your product credit from your session. Be sure to have all decision makers present. We’ll view a slideshow of your images, and then you’ll be able to look at each image as often as you’d like to make your decisions. I’ll also bring samples of the products that I offer and products that you could expect to receive from consumer labs, so you can see, feel, and compare them in person.

Pushy salesmanship is a huge turn off for me, so trust that I will not be that girl for you. I am there to answer questions and help you through the process, no stress or pressure. Once you have decided on your order, my print lab and I will handle things from there, and shortly after I will be delivering your gorgeous wall art or super cute album.

Do you offer a package with just digital files?

Part of the service I strive to provide is the ability to purchase the highest quality, heirloom prints and products available. I would not feel as though I had provided the best service possible if I did not do this. With that being said, if, after viewing your images and the collection and product offerings, you still prefer to only purchase digital files from your gallery, they are available to purchase from the a la carte menu. Digital files start at $100 per image, or a discounted rate for digital files of the complete gallery. Digital files are printable quality up to a 16×20, and USB drives include a release for printing (this is not a release of copyright) and my humble recommendation of good quality consumer print labs.
